What is Reiki?

Reiki healing is a hands-on energy healing art. Reiki is a Japanese word, meaning “universal energy”.

It originated in Japan in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui, who had a life-changing experience of light and energy that he recognized as Reiki – sacred life energy – and awakened his innate healing abilities. He developed a system of practices that enable others to become effective healers. It is used to help increase the flow of energy which helps restore health and balance.

Reiki is a form of energy, which is guided by the practitioner. The practitioner serves as a channel for the life force (often referred to as ki or chi) to do the “greatest good” for the client.

A Reiki practitioner has been “attuned” by a Reiki Master to receive the universal energy which allows the practitioner to pass on the universal energy to those who ask for it and are willing to receive it.

Reiki helps restore balance and promotes healing often through boosting the body’s own natural healing system. It is most often used through touch but can be sent to the recipient over a distance (known as distance healing).
